Royal Canadian Navy – Globally Deployed for Strategic Effect

On 27 October 2021, Rear-Admiral Brian Santarpia, Commander Maritime Forces Atlantic and Commander Maritime Component, spoke to RUSI(NS) and guests with a presentation titled “Royal Canadian Navy – Globally Deployed for Strategic Effect.”

RAdm Santarpia described where Canada’s Navy is deployed and how these deployments are intended to achieve strategic effects. He linked those strategic effects, achieved through the use of maritime power in combination with other elements of national power, to a broader grand strategy and Canada’s national interests. Finally, he discussed the interplay between ends, ways and means and how it relates to the planned renewal of the Royal Canadian Navy’s fleet.

A PDF of RAdm Santarpia’s presentation slides is available here. A recording of the presentation is available on request to RUSI(NS).
