Canadian Coast Guard Autonomous Systems and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Program

On 18 January 2023, Scott Hatcher, Canadian Coast Guard, spoke to RUSI(NS) and guests with a presentation titled “Canadian Coast Guard Autonomous Systems and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Program.”

The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) has supported the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) since 2015. Since then, a number of projects have clarified the operationalization of small RPAS in the fleet. From this work a broader goal to use autonomous systems to contribute to intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) has emerged. The CCG Autonomous Systems and ISR program aims to build maritime domain awareness and broader situational awareness for the Coast Guard fleet. This presentation provided a snapshot of work to date toward this goal.

A PDF of Scott Hatcher’s slides is available here. A recording of the presentation may be available upon request to RUSI(NS).
